There is a fascinating history to the Cambodia casinos that reside just over the border from nearby Thailand, in which gambling den betting is prohibited. Eight casinos are established in a relatively small space in the metropolis of Poipet in Cambodia. This conclave of Cambodia gambling halls is in an excellent destination, a 3 to four hour trip from Bangkok and Macao, the two most popular betting centers in Asia. Cambodia gambling halls do a huge business with Thai blue-collar workers and travelers from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a couple of Westerners. The astonishing income acquired from the casinos ranges from seven and a half million dollars to over twelve and a half million dollars, and there are a number of restrictions requirements for casino ownership. Ownership is required to be mostly Thai; however, funding sources are vague. The borders are formally open from 0900 to 17:00, and though visas are allegedly required to cross, there are ways around this, as is real of most border crossings.

The initial Cambodia gambling halls premiered in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were required to close in 1998, leaving only one gambling hall in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a stationary bateau casino, contains one hundred and fifty slot machines and sixty tables. The Naga gambling den never closes with 42 tables of mini-baccarat chemin de fer, 4 tables of vingt-et-un, ten of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and one each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The first gambling hall in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in 1999 and the Golden Crown quickly opened. There are 150 slots and 5 tables at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slot machine games and sixty eight gaming tables at the Holiday Palace. The latest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort contains three hundred slot machine games and 70 table games and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 one armed bandits and 96 table games, including 87 baccarat (the most dominant game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Also, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five slots and sixty six of the familiar table games, as well as a single table of Casino Stud Poker. An additional of the 8 gambling halls in Poipet, again a part of a hotel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six one armed bandits and 97 table games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of a multinational resort and hotel compound that contains numerous conveniences accompanying the gambling den, which offers 10,000 sq.ft. of 130 slots and 88 tables.
